Concrete FAQs
Why does concrete crack?
Concrete shrinks as it cures and moves with temperature changes and soil movement. Control joints are cut or formed to guide where cracks occur. Clay soils that swell and shrink, like those common in North Texas, add to that movement.
How long before I can use new concrete?
As general guidance, foot traffic is often fine after a day or two and vehicle traffic after about a week, but curing continues for weeks. Weather and the mix affect timing, so follow the guidance given for your specific pour.
Can cracked concrete be repaired instead of replaced?
Small, stable cracks can often be filled or sealed. Sections that have heaved, sunk or broken apart usually need to be removed and replaced.
